Abstract

The architectural profession is undergoing a structural crisis whose nature it has not yet fully grasped. Artificial intelligence has exposed a core vulnerability: what architecture schools teach today is increasingly reproduced by an algorithm faster and at lower cost. But there is one dimension the algorithm cannot assume. That dimension is ethical: who bears responsibility for what happens to a building after the keys have been handed over? Who ensures that the next generation understands what it has inherited — and does not destroy it out of ignorance? This ethical competence is today falling out of professional culture and architectural education simultaneously. Its absence gives rise to what the author defines as temporal violence: the measurable destruction of accumulated value, committed not out of malice but out of the absence of a language capable of transmitting architectural intent across generations. In response, the author develops the Architectura Temporis methodology, introducing the term Chronity — the fundamental property of matter and environ ment to accumulate time as verifiable value, perceived through sensory experience and cultural memory. Two operational instruments follow: the Chronity Index (CI), combining sensory intensity, material strategy and reversibility; and the Chrono-Passport — the immunity of chronity and an operational instruction for the building’s maturation, written in a language the next owner can read. The methodology is verified against Casa Zamprogno, an unpublished work by Afra and Tobia Scarpa (Montebelluna, Veneto, 1971), T+55, original materials intact: sensory intensity 22/25; TCO 18.3% lower than standard strategy; Authenticity Premium 35-45%; CI 0.855. The concept of fitting must be understood not only as spatial but as temporal. The paper proposes integrating temporal responsibility into architectural curricula — not as an additional discipline, but as a change in the foundational question: how will this building look at its inhabitants fifty years from now?
