Through cooperation agreements, settlements and urban districts that had fallen behind socially and technically came into contact with the Department of Residentialbuilding Design at the Faculty of Architecture of BME.
Recognizing the problems, and thanks to the sensitivity of the participants, areas were selected for the semester-long design tasks of the design courses where, alongside improving social aspects, there was also an opportunity to apply experimental forms of housing based on the values and historical embeddedness of the place, through contemporary architectural interventions. The aim was to keep residents in their original place of residence, to offer prospects, and to shape a vision for the future of the community.
Balatonfüred Old Village
However, the new educational methodology process involving real design sites integrated into education had already begun in 2009, with the intention of renewing Balatonfüred Old Village. Based on the student plans prepared at the time, decision-preparatory concept studies were developed with the continuous participation and involvement of the town’s leaders and residents. Then, in 2024, the investment was implemented according to a plan based on these foundations. The project traced a beautiful arc, starting from ideas rooted in a university design semester. By using the site’s special values rooted in the past, the renewed center of the distri- ct could be created in the present, serving the future.
